Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has condemned certain political leaders for attempting to revive outdated tribal narratives characterized by ethnic divisions.
In a statement on X, the senator emphasized that the country must not return to the days when political groups mobilized along ethnic lines.
Omtatah urged all Kenyans to protect the new tribeless society established by the 2010 constitution by fostering a nation where ethnic background is not a critical issue.
“Going forward, all Kenyans of all generations and walks of life must arise, boldly stand up, and make the conscious decision to protect the new tribeless society anchored in the constitution by working to create a country where one’s ethnic background is not a do-or-die affair,” Omtatah said.
He praised the Gen-Z revolutionaries for their courage, determination, and clarity of mind in overcoming impunity, tribalism, regionalism, mediocrity, corruption, wastefulness, and political decay that have hindered the nation’s progress.
Omtatah also highlighted the demands of Gen Z for fair inclusion in the government and accountability. He stressed that criticizing a bad leader should not be seen as an attack on a community.
“Kenya’s tribeless youth movement’s promise of a great nation must not be lost,” he added.
“Those in authority must be held accountable for lives lost during recent protests, abductions, and the numerous injuries some protesters have sustained.”
