If Kamala Harris wins the US election, she has made it clear that one change sure to come to the White House is the presence of a president who actually enjoys a beer. Unlike teetotalers Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Harris shared on late-night TV Tuesday that she enjoys an occasional brew.

Prompted by host Stephen Colbert, the Democrat cracked open a can of Miller High Life. Colbert, joking about how elections are often won on “vibes,” said, “One of the old sayings is they just want someone they can have a beer with.”

He then asked, “So, would you like to have a beer with me so I can tell people what that’s like?”

Colbert revealed that the show’s producers had checked ahead to ensure they could serve the vice president of the United States a drink. As Harris accepted the can of Miller High Life—a 4.6 percent beer, known for its “easy-drinking flavor”—she shared that her last beer had been with her husband, Doug Emhoff.

“The last time I had a beer was at a baseball game with Doug,” Harris said as she cracked open the can. “Cheers.”

“There you go. It’s cold. From the beautiful city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,” Colbert said, referring to one of the seven swing states that could be crucial in deciding the 2024 presidential election.

“The champagne of beers,” Harris responded, quoting the drink’s marketing slogan.

Her appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was part of a wider media blitz that has included interviews with the hosts of *The View* and a lengthy chat with Howard Stern on SiriusXM. Like those other outlets, Colbert’s show provided a friendly platform, with no tough questions in sight.

Colbert’s frequent jabs at Donald Trump also gave Harris a chance to highlight her message. “You know, when you lost millions of jobs, you lost manufacturing, you lost automotive plants, you lost the election, what does that make you? A loser,” Harris said.

With a laugh, she added, “This is what happens when I drink beer.”
