Safaricom has announced a scheduled system maintenance for its mobile money platform, M-Pesa, on Tuesday night. The maintenance will cause a disruption of over four hours, from 11 p.m. on September 10, 2024, to 3:30 a.m. on September 11, 2024.

In a notice shared on social media, Safaricom explained that this maintenance is necessary to ensure continued high-quality service. During this period, M-Pesa services including bill payments, money transfers, cash withdrawals, and airtime purchases will be unavailable.

However, Safaricom assured customers that all other services, such as calls, data, and SMS, will remain unaffected and operational as usual.

Since its introduction in Kenya in 2007, M-Pesa has become Safaricom’s most significant revenue source, contributing 42.4% of the company’s revenue, which amounted to Ksh.140 billion for the year ending March 31, 2024.
