One dead, 18 injured in Rongo accident

One person died while 18 other sustained injuries following an accident that involved a matatu and a private vehicle at Winyo area along Rongo-Homabay road in Rongo, Migori County on Sunday.

According to eye witnesses, the private vehicle and the matatu were involved in a head on collision.

Migori County director of medical services Dr.Dan Ochiel said that the 18 survivors involved in the accident were rushed to Rongo sub county hospital.

15 were treated and discharged while three other passengers who sustained severe injuries were referred to Migori level four hospital for treatment.

Ranen conference president Bering Ngore said the SDA church lost a staunch member of the church that has served the church in various capacities in the accident. Gore said the death of Samwel Omolo in the afternoon accident is a loss to the church and his family.

Meanwhile the residents of Rongo have called on the government through the Kenya Nationals Highway Authority (KENHA) to erect more bumps on the Rongo-Homabay road to help in controlling speed.

Peter Otianga Obwanda, a resident of Rongo said the traffic police should also deal with motorists who are overspending.
