One person died, and several others are being treated at Londiani District Hospital for diarrhea and vomiting.

This is after they allegedly consumed meat from a cow that died in Nakuru County’s Kaptembwo area on Wednesday.

Dr.Michael Cheruiyot, Chief Officer of Veterinary and Livestock, Nakuru County Government, confirmed the incident, saying the deceased was one of five people admitted to the facility.

Several others were treated and discharged from the same hospital.

According to Dr.Cheruiyot, the cow that the locals ate was being treated for an unknown illness before it died.

Despite the owner’s orders to bury the carcass, neighbors defied the order and chopped up pieces of meat to cook and eat.

Dr. Cheruiyot also warned residents against eating uninspected meat and urged those who had eaten it to seek immediate medical attention.
