One person has died while eleven others sustained serious injuries following two separate road accidents along the Sagana-Karatina road in Ndia, Kirinyaga County.
According to reports, the first accident occurred at Kirinyaga construction area between Kibingoti trading centre and Kiangwaci where a saloon vehicle heading to Sagana lost control and rolled several times before landing into a river in Ragati.
A woman, who was among four of the car’s occupants, died on the spot while the three were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
“The driver of the Saloon vehicle make Toyota Ractis was heading towards Sagana and on reaching Kirinyaga construction areas, lost full control of the vehicle, swerved from the left to right veered off the road landing into river Ragati,” Ndia Deputy police Commander Moses Koskei said.
Commander Koskei added that the second accident occurred at Kibirigwi area after a canter heading to Sagana from Karatina suffered a break fail and collided head-on with a matatu heading towards Karatina, leading to 8 people sustaining serious injuries.
“The occupants of the two suffered serious injuries and they were rushed to Karatina sub-county hospital,” Koskei said.
The woman’s body was taken to the mortuary at Murang’a Hospital, and the three vehicles were towed to the Sagana police station.
