The tragic death of popular South African rapper Costa Titch left many fans and relatives with unanswered questions.

After a year of speculation, pathologists have finally revealed the true cause of South African rapper Costa Titch’s death.

The Amapiano hitmaker, real name Costantinos Tsobanoglou, better known by his stage name Costa Titch, died on 11 March 2023 after collapsing on stage during a performance at the Ultra South Africa Music Festival at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

Costa Titch was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead at the age of 27. Now, more than a year later, his family have finally been given closure.

In a statement released on Wednesday, they confirmed that foul play and drug use had been ruled out as factors in his death. The autopsy, released by Costa’s family, revealed a previously unknown “significant strain on Costa’s heart”, likely exacerbated by prolonged stress and fatigue.

This, according to the statement, “likely led to an irregular heartbeat, triggering the seizure that claimed his life”.

“Amid speculation, our team and family have been working with pathologists to determine the true cause of his passing,” the statement reads.

“The post-mortem examination revealed a significant strain on Costa’s heart, unbeknownst to him, exacerbated by ongoing stress and fatigue. This culminated in what is likely to have been an irregular heartbeat, triggering the seizure that took his life”.

Costa’s family urged fans to continue celebrating the rapper and dancer’s legacy. At the time of his death, they expressed their grief, saying they had been robbed of a son and grandson.

“Costa Titch’s influence transcended boundaries, inspiring countless souls throughout his journey and leaving an indelible mark on the world of music.

“In this time of mourning, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to his devoted fans for their unwavering love and support. Let’s us continue to honour his legacy together.”
