Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has warned the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) officials engaging in corrupt practices in the distribution of subsidised fertiliser.
Speaking at AIC Fellowship Annex church on Sunday, Sudi raised concern about the presence of cartels within NCPB, whom he accused of extorting farmers.
Sudi pointed out the troubling scenario at Lessos NCPB, where farmers are compelled to offer bribes for access to government-subsidised fertiliser.
“The president can not work hard to get us fertiliser then rogue people at the cereals start asking for bribes to give the fertiliser. Let this be a warning especially to Lessos, it must stop,” Sudi stated.
Due to long queues at NCPB outlets, farmers are compelled to part with money to expedite the receipt of subsidised fertiliser.
Kesses MP Julius Ruto called on the government to address the shortage of subsidised fertiliser, saying farmers face uncertainities as planting season closes in.
