Hundreds of Super Metro vehicles flagged for non-compliance with transport regulations have lined up for urgent inspections.

This comes in the wake of the National Transport and Safety Authority’s (NTSA) decision to revoke the operating license of the Super Metro fleet. The inspection, which began early this morning, involves 294 vehicles in total.

Among the key areas of scrutiny are the vehicles’ bodywork, speed limiters, lighting systems, safety belts, and tyre conditions.

Officials are also ensuring that each vehicle meets the requirement of being mechanically sound and roadworthy.

As of now, NTSA inspectors are reported to be assessing the 70th vehicle in the long queue, with the process expected to continue late into the day.

Following NTSA’s ban, the Sacco filed an appeal with the Transport Licensing Appeals Board in Nairobi, challenging the Authority’s decision and terming the move arbitrary and unjust.

Super Metro argued that it had invested heavily in aligning its operations with regulatory requirements and claimed that NTSA’s suspension would cripple its operations and harm thousands of livelihoods.

In its appeal, the Sacco asserted that the suspension is based on conjecture and insufficiently investigated facts.
