Over 60 al-Shabaab millitants killed while targetting travellers on Lamu-Tana River Intersection

Over 60 suspected al-Shabaab millitants were gunned down by Kenyan security forces on Tuesday at the Lamu-Tana River Intersection, according to Interior CS Kithure Kindiki.

According to CS Kindiki, who spoke to the Senate Committee on Education early Wednesday, two Kenyans were also killed during the attack in which the militants targeted travellers.

He told the committee that the militants had targeted four buses carrying over 200 passengers before Kenyan security forces intervened.

The approximately sixty (60) terrorists who attacked a bus on Tuesday were engaged by security personnel from the Nyangoro Forward Operating Base (FOB) who were conducting clearance patrols on the Lamu-Witu Garsen Highway, according to the Interior Ministry. They were then dispersed into the Boni Forest.

According to reports, two people died from gunshot wounds, ten more people were injured in varying degrees, and an unspecified number of people went missing.

CS Kindiki said the government has increased its efforts to combat terrorists, particularly in the North Eastern region, where specialised security units have been deployed.
