Over 60 Kenyan fishermen from Remba Island in Suba North Constituency have been arrested in a span of two weeks over alleged boundary trespass and lack of adherence to fishing regulations in Ugandan waters.

The fishermen were arrested and their 30 boats were also impounded by Ugandan Security Personnel while on a fishing expedition in Lake Victoria.

Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan says they have already secured the release of the fishermen after diplomatic talks between the Kenyan and Ugandan Governments.

Lilan says that they are negotiating with the Ugandan Authority to release the other boats which are still under their custody.

He disclosed that his office works in partnership with the County Beach Management Units to sensitize the fishermen on Kenyan and Ugandan fisheries regulations to avoid rampant arrests.
