The government has assured Kenyans of its commitment to ensuring their data is highly protected.

ICT and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo said nothing will stop the government from ensuring the rights of individuals to have their data handled responsibly.

Speaking after launching the office of data protection commissioner in Mombasa, the CS noted that the government has managed to digitalize 5,084 government services as it continues with its digitalization agenda.

He however noted that the framework is in place to ensure Kenyan’s data is private and secured.

The government is seeking to install 25,000 free WIFI hotspots in markets and bus terminals across the country as part of the digital transformation agenda.

“Our target is markets where our mothers and sisters are involved in trade and bus terminals where our youth have been loitering with no economic activities,” he said.

He said in the world of today, the buyer of a commodity does not need to meet the seller.

On Sunday, the free WiFi installation was launched in Marikiti market, Akamba handicraft market in Changamwe and Diani in Ukunda.
