A mother is demanding justice after her daughter, Sharon Nyambura, was shot during the May fuel protests while she was inside a salon in Kahawa West, an incident she says left her child fighting for her life and the family still searching for answers.

The shooting happened as protests over fuel prices spread across parts of the city, with the young woman caught inside a salon during the chaos.

In an interview with a local TV station on Sunday, June 7, 2026, the mother, Jane Mwangi, said she arrived at the scene to find her daughter critically injured and bleeding on the ground before she was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Vile nilifika nilipata anavuja damu akiwa amelala hapo chini. Walimpeleka theatre,” she said.

She said doctors immediately took the victim into surgery after confirming the severity of her condition.

Moment before the shooting

Nyambura recounted the terrifying moment she was shot, saying she had no warning before the bullet struck her chest.

Nilikuwa na shukwa nikaskia risasi imelia mara mbili… haikupita hata seconds tano nikahisi kitu ikanipiga hapa,” she said.

She said she lost consciousness shortly after and later woke up in the hospital after undergoing surgery.

According to her account, doctors confirmed she had suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to theatre. She added that she was not handed the bullet after the operation.

She said the experience left her confused and traumatised as she tried to piece together what had happened.

Search for justice

The mother said she reported the matter to the police but was told investigations would follow, though she claims no clear progress has been communicated.

“Nilienda police station wakaniambia watafanya uchunguzi… lakini hadi leo hakuna kitu,” she said.

She added that she later escalated the matter to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), where she was informed a file had been opened for investigation.

The mother now says she is pushing for justice, insisting that the shooting must be fully investigated and those responsible held accountable.
