A wedding day that began with makeup artists, beautiful shoes and quiet excitement in Nambaya Village, Masasi, ended in grief when 37-year-old Floviana Hokororo died just hours after exchanging vows with her groom on September 19, 2026.
Floviana and Patrick Daniel Almasi had been planning their wedding at St. Clemence Catholic Church when she suddenly fell ill before the ceremony could begin.
Patrick’s decision reflects both his love, his desperation
Rather than postpone, Patrick made a decision that reflected both his love and his desperation: he asked the priest, the witnesses and those gathered to complete the marriage rite right there in the bedroom, with Floviana dressed in her wedding outfit and lying in bed.
“I told my wife that I loved her very much and that I was genuinely committed to marrying her,” Patrick said afterwards.
“Since our goal was to get married, I asked her, ‘Why don’t we get married right here where we are?’ I suggested we get married on the bed because the law allows us to conduct a marriage ceremony there.”
Patrick opens up about hurt
He described the aftermath as devastating.
“I am deeply hurt because I had invested so much in this, especially considering that I still needed my wife. She was the pillar of my family because she was the one who built our family.”
Father Ignas Mlelwa, who officiated the ceremony, said he had arrived at around 3 o’clock and waited as the situation became increasingly difficult.
