APS Bomet coach Sammy Omollo has exuded optimism that the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League newbies will not be relegated from the league this season.

Speaking after the Sunday defeat against Gor Mahia, Pamzo acknowledged that Gor’s winning difference was in their ability to manage the game, an aspect he says their rivals perfectly executed after scoring the second goal.

The tactician opined that Gor Mahia ticked the box on game management skills to the detriment of his side.

Tried everything

“We were playing against an experienced side, but we managed to push them. We tried everything possible with the substitutes, but it just did not work,” he remarked.

“We know Gor’s weakness lies on their right side, where they are weaker; Morisson doesn’t cover that side adequately, and we intended to exploit that, but it did not materialise,” he stated.

Relegation scare

On the run to avoid dropping from the league, Pamzo stated that his team will certainly avoid the drop, asserting that their game plan lies in collecting points against their fellow relegation candidates.

The league newcomers are ranked 16th in the standings, just a place above a tight relegation zone, which has Sofapaka (18 points), Bidco United (16 points), and Kariobangi Sharks, who prop up the standings with 14 points.

Pamzo also downplayed the defeat against Gor, adding that he looks to shift focus to winning the team next time against fellow relegation candidates.

“I know we are going to survive the league. This has been my message to the club and the players. When you lose against Gor Mahia and you have played well, you have to be proud. But for the teams that are below us and those few ahead of us, we need to collect points from them. Everything is in place, the foundation is there, and I am impressed with our game. All will soon work out,” he opined.

On his part, Akonnor acknowledged that Pamzo’s side posed yet another tough challenge for his side, with their stubborn nature. Akonnor, who described the previous tie between the two as an embarrassing outcome, called the clash on his charges, perfectly executing instructions.

“Today’s tactic was to stay compact, which led to our first goal. In the second half, we changed formation, and it worked well as we scored again,” he explained. “It was far from easy—the opponents pressed us hard—but we overcame it. The boys are processing things very well, and it makes us very happy,” he stated.
