Reverend Canon Aaron Mwesigwa, a Ugandan pastor, called for the burning of the infamous toilet on which socialite Christine Nampeera was filmed in a compromising situation with her boyfriend, Barasha, last week.
Speaking during a press conference, Canon Mwesigwa said the toilet was now cursed and should not be used by other people.
“In fact, even that toilet where that act took place should be burned down. I’m telling you the truth. The toilet where Nampeera was injected should be burnt down because it’s now cursed. Other people shouldn’t use it. Other people should not use it because if it is a toilet, other people will use it to sit on it for short or long calls,” said Canon Mwesigwa in part.
However, his sentiments, captured by Galaxy FM, were met with mixed reactions as some demanded to know if a church where some people were caught in a similar compromising situation was closed down or if religious leaders who were caught with people’s spouses had their churches burned down as well.
“That means school libraries, church toilets, most bar toilets, and some churches should be closed. Because sex is practised in those places, but no videos are recorded. I believe breaking that toilet isn’t the solution,” opined Samuel Mutebi.
“Religious leaders should be watching religious summits on Zoom, not sex tapes,” castigated Lenox UG.
Last week, Nampeera and her boyfriend were secretly filmed being intimate in a toilet cubicle at a renowned club. A second couple was also filmed but did not go as viral as Nampeera and Barasha as their sex tape made rounds in East Africa.
Ms Nampeera called on people to stop sharing the video, saying she was feeling suicidal that a private moment was recorded and made public.
“I want to apologise to my family, DJ Roja, my friends, my boyfriend, Mr Barasha, and my employers who have been affected by the video circulating. It was a private affair, I am sorry…Guys, please stop sharing those videos. I’m suicidal right now,” said Ms Nampeera.
She has since gone radio silent on social media, where she consistently updated her followers about her life.
