Dorcas Rigathi, the Spouse of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, could not contain her tears on Thursday as she shed light on the harsh realities faced by women across Kenya.

Speaking in Kilifi County, Dorcas lamented the desperate measures some women are forced to take to make ends meet, including selling their bodies.

“Our women are going through a lot. I recently went to Migori and interacted with a widow who told me that she sells her body so that she can afford to raise her children. It is very bad,” the teary Dorcas said.

She further emphasized the need for comprehensive support systems to uplift women and provide them with opportunities for economic empowerment.

“This is why I have been looking for avenues to uplift our women. How would you react if you found your mother doing the same?” she posed.

Dorcas additionally urged all religious factions in Kenya to band together in solidarity in the fight for gender equality and women’s rights.

“There is no religion when it comes to addressing such issues. Christians, Muslims and Hindus and people from other religions are all suffering,” she said.
