Controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie was on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, re-arrested minutes after he was set free by a Malindi court.

Mackenzie had been arrested and charged with orchestrating rogue Christian teachings and killing his followers but was set free for lack of enough evidence.

Mackenzie was arraigned before deputy registrar Ivy Wasike alongside 18 others. Two were however released on account that they were not supposed to be charged since they had been taken for counselling at the Malindi Red Cross facility, since they were not in the right state of mind.
No evidence against Mackenzie

According to Wasike, the court had no substantial evidence and could only open a new charge of accounts if the accused was re-arrested once he was out of court.

Immediately after his release, the preacher was arrested outside the court and was taken by the police to Shanzu Law Courts where he was charged with the accounts.

Paul Mackenzie is accused of conducting shady activities that have led his flocks to fast to death in a bid to “meet Jesus”.

The Shanzu Court ordered that the preacher and 18 co-accused will stay in police custody for three more days.

He was presented before Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Omido, who is also handling a similar case against Pastor Ezekiel Odero.

Omido has directed the matter, in which the DPP wants to continue holding the suspects for 90 more days, to be handled by his colleague Shanzu SPM Yusuf Shikanda.

Mackenzie and the 18 co-accused are being represented by advocates Elisha Komora and George Kariuki.
