Blogger and Kenya Kwanza critic Pauline Njoroge claims that over Ksh.300,000 was withdrawn from her account while the DCI withheld her bank cards.
Njoroge took to social media to claim the money was withdrawn via an online transaction, a point her lawyers raised in court on Monday as the hearing in her case continued.
“On the evening of 3rd Aug 2023, Ksh302,842 was withdrawn from my account through an online transaction, a matter my defense team raised in court yesterday since the DCI officers were the only third parties who had had actual possession and access to my bank cards before the theft,” Njoroge said.
She then went ahead to link the theft to a pseudo account on Facebook, which she says was aware of the fraud.
“Now, the following morning, (4th Aug 2023) a facebook account by the name Mary Mukami (obviously a pseudo account) wrote this post meaning he/she was aware what they had done,” she added.
Her claims come just weeks after she and a friend were arrested while visiting Watamu in Kilifi County.
Police initially claimed that Njoroge and the other two were found in possession of narcotics, but no charges were filed against them when they appeared in court two days later.
Her arrest was linked to the Azimio la Umoja protests against President William Ruto’s administration across the country.
Njoroge has been a strong critic of the Kenya Kwanza government and a close ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Her arrest sparked angry reactions from her supporters, and the police were on the spot for allegedly planting allegations against them.
