Person of interest nabbed as police seize Ksh1.19M worth of heroin

Nakuru authorities have arrested an individual in connection with a major drug haul, recovering heroin valued at Ksh1.19 million in a swift intelligence-led operation.

In a statement posted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the operation, carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives, took place when the individual was riding a motorcycle with luggage that caught the attention of the officers. Upon inspection, the detectives found 397 grams of heroin carefully concealed for transport.

Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives have arrested a trafficker, seizing heroin worth Sh1.19 million in a swift intelligence-led operation in Nakuru. The man, a 42-year-old individual was nabbed while riding a motorcycle (Reg. No. KMEC 785W), carrying luggage that raised red flags among the hawk-eyed detectives.

A search of the luggage uncovered 397 grams of heroin, neatly concealed for transport. Detectives also recovered two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes,” DCIstated.

In addition to the heroin, authorities recovered two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes. Officials believe the arrest disrupted an ongoing drug supply run in the area.

The individual is currently in police custody as investigations continue ahead of court proceedings. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) emphasised its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks through targeted operations and collaboration with other agencies.

Authorities have reiterated that there will be no tolerance for drug trafficking, with efforts aimed at ensuring a safer, drug-free Kenya for all citizens.

“The arrest effectively cut short what detectives believe was an active drug supply run. The person of interest is now in police custody as detectives complete investigations ahead of his arraignment. The DCI remains firmly committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through relentless operations and multi-agency collaboration. With zero tolerance for traffickers, regardless of status, we will ensure a safer, drug-free Kenya for all.”
