Peter ‘Peetah’ Anthony Morgan, the lead singer of the renowned reggae band Morgan Heritage, passed away at the age of 46, his family announced on Sunday, February 25.

In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the family requested privacy while expressing gratitude for the outpouring of love and support.

The cause of Peter Morgan’s death was not disclosed in the announcement.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and lead singer of Morgan Heritage, Peter Anthony Morgan, who ascended on February 25th, 2024. May Jah guide us through this time with love,” the family’s statement read.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed his condolences on X, stating that he was deeply saddened by Morgan’s death, describing it as a significant loss for Jamaica and the reggae music community.

Peter Morgan, affectionately known as “Peetah,” was born into a musical family, with his father being the renowned Jamaican reggae artist Denroy Morgan. Alongside his siblings Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan, he formed Morgan Heritage in 1994.

The band achieved international acclaim, winning a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2016 for their album “Strictly Roots.”

Morgan’s brother Roy “Gramps” Morgan pursued a music career in Tennessee, aiming to introduce reggae to Nashville.

Peter Morgan’s legacy as a talented vocalist and integral member of Morgan Heritage will forever resonate within the reggae music scene.
