Mombasa residents are calling upon the County Government to intervene and set up drainage systems in the Central Business District (CBD).

The calls follow heavy downpour that has resulted in floods in major areas around the city.

Heavy rainfall on Friday night saw many of the town centres completely flooded, including the Kibarani area, Railways Roundabout, CMC route, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)and Moi Avenue Docks being mostly affected.

Netizens have taken to social media to share videos and photos of the flood-hit regions and warn motorists against traversing the areas.

Here are some of the videos and photos shared by Kenyans on Twitter. (KOT)

“There’s no easy movement at Kibarani Area in Mombasa as the floods have taken over the road just from the Bridge (Indian Ocean) to Changamwe. The traffic jam is too heavy. Motorists are advised to be careful,” Mavin Mabonga wrote.

“Heavy rains in Mombasa avoid railways roundabout, CMC route and Moi Avenue dock roundabout via @ngengimagana,” Ngengi Magana shared via Ma3Route.

Some users hilariously took to admonish the county government claiming it had failed to put up proper drainage systems.

“Governor @ASNassir kama unataka tukue samaki si ungesema. The drainage systems are so poor. This is the Railway roundabout in Mombasa. Messy!” Thomas Kithusi wrote.
