Police bust suspected heroin trafficker, gang member in separate Kilifi raids

Police nab suspected drug trafficker and gang member in separate operations in Kilifi County

Police from Kilifi Police have nabbed a suspected drug trafficker following a tip from members of the public from Kibaoni area in Kilifi Sub-County. Acting on the tip, they launched a swift operation and laid out an ambush and successfully managed to arrest the suspect.

Following a search of the suspect’s person, they recovered a nylon packet that contained 11 sachets of a substance that is suspected to be heroin and about Kshs. 800 in cash which is said to be proceeds from the illicit trade.

The suspect who is yet to be identified is being held at the Kilifi Police Station awaiting processing and arraignment with the exhibits being secured at the facility.

In a similar incident, police from Mtwapa in Kilifi conducted an operation near Bemu Guest House where they intercepted the gang and managed to arrest one suspect with the whereabouts of the remaining members yet to be revealed, as police are still on hot pursuit for them whilst following on crucial leads.

Upon searching the suspect, police officers recovered a backpack containing three smartphones, suspected to be stolen, seven and a half large rolls of green dry plant material, suspected to be cannabis, kitchen knife, and a taser.

The gang member is currently in police custody for processing pending arraignment while the exhibits recovered are being securely stored at the station.

The National Police Service has since extended appreciation to the members of the public who aided police in combating the crime and drug menace in the county as well as the coastal region.

“The National Police Service extends its gratitude to the members of the public for their invaluable information in combating crime.”, read a statement on X from the National Police Service.

The two arrests come in wake of complaints by Coastal residents and general public, seeking help from relevant authorities to combat crime and drug-related activities that they say is destroying the future of young Kenyans and causing unwarranted troubles.
