Police have been deployed at the Kenya National Polytechnic in Kisumu following tension from the institution students regarding a planned strike.
The students are claiming the administration has increased fees without their involvement in the wake of the tough economic times.
Kisumu Central Sub County police boss visited the school in the morning as a number of disgruntled students stood by the gate.
The school Principal Catherine Kalonye told Ramogi FM that they had received a circular from the ministry and the Polytechnic council regarding the increment to Kshs 56,000.
She however attributes the ongoing tension to examination fever by the students adding that she spoke to the students yesterday and all their representatives were present only for them to decline exams today.
The students have further accused the principal among other things closing down school hostels, banning giving out school buses to ferry students to burials.
