Police in Nairobi have destroyed 2,000 litres of illicit brew, known as kangara, confiscated during a recent raid in Soweto.

The targeted operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal brewing and narcotic drug activities.

According to police, the operation aims to address the growing challenge of drug and substance abuse, which continues to pose serious social, economic, and public health risks within communities.

During the exercise, authorities also confiscated and destroyed several pieces of brewing equipment used in the illegal production of kangara.

Police emphasised that dismantling these operations not only disrupts illegal supply chains but also acts as a deterrent to those involved in such activities.

The National Police Service affirmed that similar operations will persist to ensure a lasting impact, reinforce prevention strategies, and support national efforts to effectively combat drug abuse and related crimes.
