Police in Narok County are currently pursuing a two-man gang that reportedly ambushed Narok Central OCPD Fredrick Shiundu at gunpoint on Tuesday night before making away with his state-issued Jericho handgun.
Confirming the 10 pm incident, Narok County Police Commander Kizito Mutoro told Citizen Digital that the armed men lay in wait for Shiundu outside his home and pounced on him when he opened the gate to his premises.
The suspects disarmed Shiundu before bundling him into a Toyota Wish vehicle and driving 17 kilometers away to Tipis area where they robbed and abandoned the senior police officer.
Shiundu was later rescued by his fellow officers, who tracked his mobile phone after his wife raised alarm that he had been abducted from his home.
According to Muturo, who says he personally interrogated Shiundu after the incident, the suspects could have shot the OCPD but he was able to talk them out of doing so.
Mutoro added that police have since commenced investigations into the incident, which he says was well-choreographed while urging members of the public with any information on the matter to report to the police.
“These people seem to know him and they had tracked him all through. We are yet to ascertain the exact reasons behind the incident but we suspect they were after the pistol,” he said.
