Police in Habaswein sub-county in Wajir County have intercepted a lorry carrying 560 kilograms of suspected contraband sugar.
In a police report shared on X, the National Police Service said the Kenya Police in conjunction with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intercepted a lorry carrying suspected contraband sugar and rice.
“On 01/01/2024 the Kenya Police and DCI Officers from Habaswein Subcounty intercepted a lorry at Habaswein Police barrier, and seized 560 bags of “Brazilian” sugar of 50 kgs each and 250 bags of “Simba” rice each weighing 25 kgs, all suspected to be contraband,” the statement.
Other contraband nabbed in 2023
In September, police in Kiambu County seized suspected counterfeit alcohol from different brands after a raid conducted by the officers.
In a statement on September 2, 2023, NPS noted that the team recovered several items among them 44 cartons of ‘Best’ liquor, 25 cartons of ‘Smart’, 69 cartons of ‘People’, 44 cartons of ‘Blue Ice’ and 240 litres of spirit stored in jerricans.
The officers also seized fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stickers, over 1,000 bottles of different brands of spirits and over 2,000 bottle tops.
