Police intercept man at roadblock, seize bhang concealed in a bag

Police officers from Nambale Police Station have nabbed a man linked to bhang worth Ksh180,000 wrapped nicely in a green handbag.

In a statement by the National Police Service on its official X account on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the police confirmed that the person of interest was apprehended at a roadblock along the Nambale-Mumias Road.

At the time of the interception, the police confirmed that they were able to recover at least six kilograms of cannabis sativa while taking the key person of interest into police custody as he awaits processing and arraignment.

“Officers from Nambale Police Station yesterday arrested a suspect and recovered six kilograms of cannabis sativa at a roadblock along the Nambale-Mumias Road. The suspect is in custody awaiting processing and arraignment in court,” NPS said.

On the other hand, the police confirmed that the bhang, which was neatly wrapped in a green bag, has an estimated street value of Ksh180,000.

Fight on Ilicit brew

The arrest came at the height of the fight against illicit brew, with a recent fight held in Meru County, where police officers raided a homestead with an active brewing operation, destroying a consignment of illicit brew while the owner vanished into thin air.

In a statement on the National Police Service (NPS) official X account on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, police confirmed that the operation was conducted in Laare, Igembe North Sub-County.

Likewise, the police revealed that the crackdown on illicit brew has intensified in the county in a bid to safeguard public health.

“Police officers in Meru County have intensified their crackdown on illicit brews and drug abuse as part of efforts to safeguard public health. During an operation in Laare, Igembe North Sub-County, officers raided a homestead suspected of being a major production point for Chang’aa,” NPS said.
