Detectives are investigating three separate suicide cases across the country.
The first case involves a man whose body was discovered in his home after a suspected suicide in the Kibera slums of Nairobi. Robert Mbugua had been missing since July 26, and his body was found three days later in the Soweto area.
He was lying dead in the rented house he shared with a friend. When police arrived, they noted that the body had blisters. While the cause of death has yet to be determined, preliminary findings suggest suicide. The body has been transported to the City mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
In Ngong Town, the body of an 18-year-old girl, Natalia Manisa Muthomi, was found in their home after a suspected suicide. Police reported that she hanged herself from the roof of the living room using a neck scarf. The motive for her actions remains unknown. The body has been taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.
In another case in the Kihunguro area of Ruiru, Kiambu County, 45-year-old Albert Amimo died by suicide inside his rented house. Police found the house locked from the inside and had to break open the steel door to gain entry. They discovered his lifeless body hanging from the roof with a plastic rope around his neck. No suicide note was found, and an investigation is ongoing, with the body moved to the mortuary.
The rise in suicide cases is alarming, with police reporting up to two incidents daily, prompting calls for action to address this troubling trend.
