Investigations into the cause of the fire that consumed a section of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport are ongoing.

The fire, which started on Friday evening, consumed most of the airport’s grassland section towards 75 Airport North Road.

Emergency response teams from the Kenya Police, Kenya Airports Authority, Kenya Defense Forces, Kenya Pipeline, the Nairobi County Government, G4S, and KK Security were dispatched to contain the fire, which was visible along Airport North Road.

The fierce fire went on until late at night.

Pictures of billowing smoke and a fierce fire at the JKIA sent fears across the country with passengers who had scheduled flights expressing fear on social media at a time when the Kenya Airports Authority had not issued any statement.

KAA later confirmed that the fire was confined within non-operational grassland areas and had not impacted critical infrastructure, operations, or operational zones of the busy airport.

“All airport activities, including flight schedules, passenger processing, and cargo handling, remained fully operational and were unaffected throughout the incident,” read a statement which came minutes past 9 pm.
