Police officers in Kapsabet have apprehended three men and seized at least 1,375 litres of ethanol in a major operation targeting the illicit brew trade in Kapsabet.
According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the police noted that the operation was carried out on the same day in the Kapsabet area.
During the operation, police officers from Kapsabet intercepted a motor vehicle, hence seizing approximately 1,375 litres of suspected ethanol.
Police have further revealed that three persons of interest were nabbed during the operation.
“Police officers in Kapsabet today intercepted a motor vehicle and seized approximately 1,375 litres of suspected ethanol, arresting three suspects,” the police said.
According to the National Police, the three key persons of interest were taken into custody and are being held pending their arraignment in court.

On the other hand, the police, while affirming their commitment to combating the illicit trade of dangerous substances that threaten community safety and public health, further noted that both the vehicle and the seized ethanol have been secured as evidence at Kapsabet Police Station.

The police are now calling on members of the public to continue supporting such operations by reporting suspected criminal activities to the nearest police station.

Police sieze 2,000 litres of muratina
The Kapsabet incident closely follows a recent raid in which police in Nairobi seized more than 2,000 litres of muratina in a major operation targeting the illicit brew trade in Makadara Sub-County.
According to a statement shared by NPS, the operation was carried out on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in the Lunga Lunga area. Officers from the Nairobi Region stormed a premises suspected of being used for the production and distribution of the traditional brew.
“Today, 9th September 2025, officers from the Nairobi Region conducted a major operation targeting the illicit brew trade in the Lunga Lunga area of Makadara Sub-County,” the statement read in part.
During the raid, they recovered and destroyed over 2,000 litres of muratina and seized an additional 100 litres that were preserved as evidence. Other items believed to be linked to the illegal business were also taken away.
