A police officer based in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County was on Thursday found brutally murdered in an incident authorities believe stemmed from a love triangle.
Corporal Joseph Kahungu, 59, was found lying in a pool of blood by officers from Turasha Police Station after members of the public tipped them off after discovering his mutilated body.
Kahungu’s body had multiple deep cuts on the face and neck while his wrist had been severed from his right hand. His right foot had also been cleaved from his leg.
Preliminary investigations by police have revealed that the victim was last seen leaving Turasha Police Station to buy some cigarettes from a nearby shop.
It is suspected that he encountered his would-be murderer John Thiong’o Kinyanjui, who has since gone into hiding, during the period.
Police have arrested the suspect’s ex-wife, 40-year-old Tabitha Wanjira Thiong’o, to assist in investigations.
“The motive of murder is suspected to be love triangle. The officer was due for retirement on October 24, 2023. The scene was visited by SCPC Kipipiri, DCI Kipipiri, OCS Turasha and processed,” a police report seen by Citizen Digital reads.
The deceased’s body has since been moved to JM Kariuki Hospital morgue in Ol Kalou for storage as investigations into the gory incident continue.
