Police have launched investigations into the fatal stabbing of a police officer attached to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in Muhurubay, Migori County.
The officer, identified as Gilbert Kibet, was reportedly attacked by a civilian outside Genasa Bar and Restaurant in Muhuru Town, Nyatike South Sub-County, on Thursday night.
According to a police incident report, Kibet was stabbed on the left side of his neck by a suspect identified only as Boy. He succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital.
Nyatike South Deputy County Commissioner Festus Kimeu confirmed the incident, stating that the officer was off-duty and heading home at around midnight when the attack occurred.
“The motive behind the killing is yet to be established, and investigations are underway,” said Kimeu.
The body of the deceased has been moved to Migori County Referral Hospital pending a postmortem examination and further police investigations. The suspect remains at large.
