Detectives and the Ruiru sub-county police commander, led by Charles Kibathi, have launched a massive manhunt for the gang, which is suspected of trailing victims from as far as Nairobi’s Industrial Area and the Eastern and executing similar break-ins within Ruiru and Kasarani.
The latest incident, which unfolded at Kahawa Sukari Shell Petrol Station, involved 55-year-old Moses Njeru Kithaka.
According to police, Kithaka withdrew Ksh.100,000 from a bank in the Kamakis area along the Eastern Bypass before driving to the petrol station parking lot.
After securely locking his car to go shopping, Kithaka returned 30 minutes later to find his right rear window shattered.
The thieves had made off with over Ksh.100,000, which he had left inside a khaki envelope in the vehicle.
CCTV footage captured the syndicate’s precise operation moments after Kithaka parked at the petrol station.
The gang closely shadowed his vehicle, parked adjacent to it, and used a specialized object to swiftly break the window and extract the cash before speeding away from the scene towards Ruiru.
Officers from the Kahawa Sukari Police Station alongside Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) detectives, have visited the scene, using the recovered footage and forensic evidence to track down the elusive network.
Police are urging those with information to come out and help crack the syndicate, which has found a haven along the Thika Super Highway, targeting victims without fear.
