Police have recovered four illegal guns in Laikipia County.

According to the National Police Service Commission, the homemade guns were recovered following a sting operation.

“A multi-agency security team operating in Laikipia County, yesterday recovered 4 illegal homemade guns, capable of firing,” police said.

The officers welcomed the support that they received from members of the public, which led to the recovery of the firearms.

“We urge any person in possession of any illegal firearm to immediately hand it over to the security agencies,” the statement noted.

The recovery of firearms follows joint efforts in taming crime across various parts of the country.

For instance, President William Ruto ordered a joint security exercise between the National Police Service and the Kenya Defence Forces as the government ramps up the fight against banditry in the troubled North Rift region, last month.

Cattle rustlers and bandits have wreaked havoc in the country’s North Rift region, leading to the loss of hundreds of lives, displacement of residents, and loss of thousands of livestock.

The most affected counties are Baringo, Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet.
