Police recover stolen livestock after bandits abandoned them in Laikipia

Police officers in Laikipia County have recovered stolen livestock in Matwiku Sub-Location after bandits abandoned the livestock at the Laikipia Nature Conservancy.

In a long post on the National Police official X account on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the police confirmed that the coordinated security operation was conducted on Saturday, October 31, 2025.

At the time of the operation, police confirmed that the recovery came after a report from Matwiku Sub-Location residents, where a man was attacked by armed bandits while herding his livestock in the Mlimalima Jangili area.

“Yesterday, 31st October 2025, police in Laikipia successfully recovered stolen livestock during a coordinated security operation. The recovery came after a report by a resident of Matwiku Sub-Location, who stated that at around 1100 hours, his son was attacked by armed bandits while herding livestock in the Mlima Jangili area,” NPS added.

The police further confirmed that at the time of the incidents, the bandits made away with at least thirty sheep and seven cows.

“The assailants made off with 30 sheep and goats and 7 cows. Upon receiving the report, a multi-agency security team assembled and swiftly launched a pursuit,” NPS added.

Recovery of the livestock

Police further confirmed that bandits got overwhelmed, leaving behind the stolen animals at the Laikipia Nature Conservancy, where the team successfully recovered all the livestock.

“The team successfully intercepted the stolen animals at the Laikipia Nature Conservancy, overwhelming the bandits. All the livestock—30 sheep and goats and 7 cows—were recovered,” NPS added.

According to the police report, the bandits escaped into a nearby thicket as they remain at large while patrols intensify to prevent further incidents.

“The armed bandits managed to escape into nearby thickets. Security teams are currently in pursuit, and patrols have been intensified to prevent further incidents,” NPS noted.

On the other hand, the National Police Service has commended the police officers for the swift response and coordination among the security teams, which led to the successful recovery of the stolen livestock.
