Police from Marsabit County have recovered twenty-four goats that were stolen from Munanda village in Samburu North sub-county.

The livestock was found in Seren village, Marsabit County, after a quick and well-coordinated operation involving several security agencies and residents.

According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS) on Monday, October 20, 2025, the recovery was made possible through teamwork between police officers, National Police Reservists (NPR), National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), and members of the community.

“The livestock was recovered in Seren Village, Marsabit County, following a coordinated and swift response from the multi-agency security team,” the statement reads in part.

The stolen goats were identified and handed back to their rightful owner.

Police said this recovery shows the power of cooperation in the fight against livestock theft, which remains a common challenge in northern Kenya.

Cooperation between police and locals key to security

In the same statement, NPS thanked all officers and residents who took part in the successful operation. “National Police Service commends the joint efforts of the security agencies and members of the public. This collaboration continues to play a vital role in enhancing security and curbing livestock theft in the region,” the statement adds.

Police noted that the sharing of information from the public helped them act quickly and trace the animals before they could be moved farther away.

Such partnerships have improved trust between law enforcement and local communities, making it easier to prevent and respond to crime.

The NPS said it remains committed to protecting lives and property, especially in areas affected by cattle rustling and bandit attacks.

Officers will continue to work closely with residents, elders, and administrators to build peace and maintain safety across Marsabit and neighbouring counties.

The recovery has been welcomed as another positive step in the effort to stop livestock theft and strengthen security in Kenya’s northern region.
