Security officers have rescued 57 indisposed persons who have been seeking healing at the controversial Melkio Joseph Mission Messiah church in Rongo, Migori County and halted prayer activities at the church.

Rongo sub county deputy county commissioner George Matundura, who led the team of security officers that raided the church on Monday night and rescued the 57 sick people who were seeking healing at the church said they are going to take other necessary legal action.

Matundura indicated that their action was occasioned by the demise of two people who died at the church while seeking healing in the past one week. He said the church is now under the surveillance of police officers.

Hours before the rescue, a family from Nyamira county stormed the church demanding for the body of their kin who died at the church.

The family claims that the church, with the support of the deceased daughter who has also been living in the church for more than ten years, were planning to bury their son at the church.
