Police rescue man with fake currency from lynching by mob

A suspected conman was rescued from the hands of an irate mob that wanted to lynch him after he was found in possession of fake money at Obambo trading center in Alego/Usonga sub-county.

The suspect is said to have tried to trade with the fake money in one of the shops within the trading center on Sunday evening.

The matter was reported at Siaya police station by the Assistant Chief of Obambo sub-location Carmen Ambajo.

According to a police incident report, Ambajo stated that the owner of the shop raised alarm and the suspect ran away. He was cornered a few meters away and a mob pounced on him.

Officers from Siaya police station swiftly rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the suspect in a critical condition then rushed him to Siaya County referral hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.

While confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said that the suspect had injuries on his face, head and blood oozing from his right ear and was also vomiting blood by the time he was rescued by the police.

He added that the suspect was also found in possession of Ksh. 16,500 fake money in different denomination of one thousand and five hundred notes which was recovered and kept as exhibit.
