Tension is high in Kiserian after an early morning attack by armed Pokot bandits who surrounded National Police Reservists (NPRs) guarding construction machines near Narokwe hills.
The bandits shot and killed on NPR officer on the spot, while three others escaped death narrowly.
According to peace elder and community leader Harrison Ole Meiguran, the bandits shot indiscriminately at the NPR officers who were providing security to a construction company working on road projects along the volatile areas of Mukutani.
He stated that following the incident, tension has risen in the area, with some locals even fleeing in fear for their lives.
Police have since arrived at the scene and taken the body of the deceased officer to the Baringo County Referral Hospital mortuary, even as more security officers have been deployed to the area.
The incident comes a day after Baringo South Charles Kamuren hit out at County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Marigat stadium over alleged laxity in flushing out regrouping armed bandits at Mukutani.
