Police in Nyandarua County have seized a consignment of suspected counterfeit second-generation liquor stored in a house in Mwireri village, Ol-Joro Orok Constituency. Acting on a tip-off from the public, police officers discovered the illegal alcohol in a rental house believed to be a stopover before being sold in Nyahururu town and surrounding areas.
Nyandarua County Police Commander Omar Arero and County Commissioner Abdilasaak Jaldesa stated that unscrupulous businesspeople were behind the scheme, putting lives at risk for profit. The authorities confiscated various items, including two rolls of KRA stamps, stickers for Blue Ice and Spark drinks, 27 jerrycans of suspected ethanol, sieves, bottle tops, gunny bags, and packaging cartons. They also seized a vehicle believed to have been used to transport the illicit liquor.
Jaldesa emphasized the government’s commitment to combating the production and distribution of such dangerous drinks, urging the public to remain vigilant about alcohol vendors in their areas. He added that the seized liquor appeared unsafe for human consumption due to questionable packaging and visible impurities.
The suspect behind the operation escaped, but authorities are actively pursuing leads. Jaldesa warned those involved in the illegal trade that the government would track them down, and he cautioned landlords to ensure they know the nature of their tenants’ businesses, as the law would not spare those harboring illegal activities.
