Police officers recovered nine hundred and ninety litres of illicit brew, known as chang’aa, on Sunday at Uuna area within South East Alego location, Siaya county.

The National Police Service (NPS) reported that the recovery occurred after a motor vehicle crashed with a motorcycle, and the car driver fled from the scene.

Officers responding to the incident found 18 sacks containing sachets of the suspected illicit brew.

“Five sacks were found inside the vehicle, and thirteen sacks had been concealed near the scene,” NPS noted.

The officers then seized the alcohol and secured it as evidence.

A manhunt has been launched to track down those involved in the trade. They will also continue operations to fight illicit brews and to protect the public.
