Pop star, Cyndi Lauper’s rapper son ‘Dex’ has appeared in court on gun charges following a shooting in Harlem
Declyn ‘Dex’ Lauper, 26, attended the Manhattan Supreme Court for a procedural hearing on Tuesday morning after his actor dad bailed him out on a $20,000 bond.
According to court documents, he was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
Dex was taken into custody after a shooting occurred in Harlem on Thursday in the area near 135 W. 112th St. where a 24-year-old man was found shot in his leg near an apartment building.
Cyndi Lauper’s husband, actor David Thornton, was previously pictured bailing their son out of jail with a wad of cash. He also accompanied Dex to his hearing on Tuesday
Thornton posted his son’s $20,000 bail at a New York City Department of Correction facility on Friday.
Prosecutors sought bail of $50,000 cash or $150,000 bond, reported New York Daily News, but a judge granted $20,000 cash bail.
After Dex was released, the father and son were escorted out of the building with their lawyer.
Dex was arrested on last Wednesday after police canvased the area for evidence and found him with a loaded gun and drugs in his possession, ABC7 reported.
The 24-year-old victim was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reportedly is in stable condition at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital.
According to the criminal complaint filed, Dex was found with a fanny pack that contained a Glock with seven bullets in its magazine. The complaint said he possessed the weapon ‘with intent to use it unlawfully against another.’
