East African Portland Cement (EAPC) has informed the public that it is selling a portion of its land in Athi River, Machakos county, amid ongoing demolitions that have sparked outrage among some Kenyans.

EAPC stated in a notice published on Tuesday that priority will be given to the parties currently occupying sections of parcels 8784/144,145, and 653 Mavoko.

“Those in this kind of situation are advised to state their claim of the same within 14 days from the date of this notice,” read the statement in part.

At the expiration of the 14 days, all unclaimed portions shall be offered to the general public on a willing buyer willing seller basis.

Meanwhile, a site office has been established, as has another within EAPC’s Namanga road premises.

Since Friday, over 50 homes, including churches and mosques, have been demolished as a result of a Machakos High Court ruling that declared the occupation of the land illegal.

EPLC won a legal battle to evict squatters from 1,740 hectares of their land in Machakos County after claimants failed to produce documents proving ownership.

The land in dispute has been occupied by some of the evictees for more than 10 years.

Some residents are now pleading with President William Ruto to intervene and protect them from the devastation that has rendered them homeless, while others are seeking compensation.
