President William Ruto announced several significant changes in the National Police Service last week, including the resignation of Police Inspector General Japhet Koome. Additionally, Ruto made changes within the Kenya Prisons Service by dismissing Commissioner General Brig John Warioba.

In his inner circle, Ruto transferred the commander of his security team, Presidential Escort Unit’s William Yiampoi.

Ruto accepted Koome’s resignation as the Inspector General of the National Police Service, appointing Deputy Inspector General Douglas Kanja as the acting IG to replace Koome, who had held the position since October 2022.

Further changes included the appointment of Renson Lolmodoon, the Director of Operations at police headquarters, as the new commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), and Gilbert Masengeli, head of the Border Police Unit, as the commandant of the Administration Police Training Campus in Embakasi.
