President William Ruto has committed to completing the construction of stalled road projects before commissioning new projects of a similar nature.
Speaking on Friday when he launched the construction works for the Riruta-Ngong Commuter rail line, President Ruto noted that completed road projects will benefit the public sooner, improving their quality of life and potentially boosting economic growth across the country.
“Our intention is to complete stalled road projects before commissioning new ones so that we are a prudent administration,” said President Ruto.
“These roads are not for leaders; they are meant for serving Kenyans.”
On the Riruta-Ngong Commuter rail line, President Ruto emphasized the significance of the route in reducing transportation costs within the region.
“As part of our plan to decrease the high cost of living, we are reducing the price of food, transport and rent,” said Ruto.
“Once commissioned the rail line will reduce transport charges from Karen to the City and vice versa by 50 percent.”
Ruto anticipates the completion of the rail line by August 2024, with plans to build railway stations at Karen, Bulbul, and Riruta to cater to the line’s services.
“They (constructors) had initially said the rail line would take 12 months to complete but I told them to do so within eight months,” said Ruto.
