President William Ruto is scheduled to supervise a livestock auction during this year’s Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Kisumu Regional Show, set to take place from July 24-28 at the Mamboleo Showground.
This marks the first time the auction will be held in Kisumu County, adding a significant highlight to the regional show that has drawn participation from more than 120 local and international exhibitors. According to George Ong’udi, Chairman of Kisumu ASK, the showcase will feature highly improved breeds aimed at enhancing the event’s prestige.
“For the first time, we are going to have a livestock auction. Having high-quality animals has been a challenge, but this has now been taken care of, and we expect the head of State, President William Ruto, and other high-ranking government officials to grace the auction,” he said.
Climate-smart agriculture
Preparations for the show have been completed, with additional exhibitors anticipated from Uganda and Tanzania joining the annual event.
The theme of this year’s show, “promoting climate-smart agriculture and trade initiatives for sustainable growth,” has attracted participants from various sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, housing, small and medium enterprises, banking, hospitality, education, and both public and private sector entities.
Sugar factories such as South Nyanza, Chemelil, and Kipchimchim have confirmed their participation, showcasing a range of technologies and products within the sector.
