Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi criticized President William Ruto for what he described as incompetence following the President’s decision to dismiss his entire Cabinet.
Amisi expressed his views during a televised interview with a local TV station on Friday, July 12, 2024. He emphasized that there was no cause for celebration regarding Ruto’s move to dissolve the Cabinet.
Amisi linked Ruto’s decision to the constitution, arguing that by firing his entire Cabinet, the President was merely responding to the will of the people, as outlined in the preamble of the Kenyan constitution.
“Why do we say that we the people have the sovereign power and we only delicate it?….This is the moment we have seen the we the power, because what the president is doing is basically responding to we the people. He has not made any genius move, there is nothing to celebrate about the President sacking his Cabinet,” Amisi argued.
The lawmaker went ahead to state that President Ruto is not the first one to sack his entire Cabinet since former late President Mwai Kibaki already did it.
Amisi on Ruto’s incompetency
Amis pointed out that Kibaki made his move based on valid reasons, unlike Ruto whose decision has exposed his incompetency.
“He is not the first one to fire his Cabinet. Kibaki did it for various reasons. There is nothing to celebrate about the president sacking his Cabinet. It actually shows how incompetent the president was by having an incompetent Cabinet in the first place,” Amisi said.
President William Ruto made a significant announcement on Thursday, July 11, 2024, declaring the dismissal of all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General Justin Muturi.
The only officials spared from the purge were Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, with Gachagua remaining in office by law unless he leaves through impeachment, resignation, incapacitation, or death.
Ruto explained that his decision to dismiss the Cabinet Secretaries came after careful reflection, attentive listening to the views expressed by the people of Kenya, and a comprehensive assessment of the Cabinet’s accomplishments and challenges. Following the announcement, Ruto stated his intention to engage in extensive consultations across various sectors and political groups to establish a broad-based government.
“Even with the progress we have made, I am acutely aware that the people of Kenya have high expectations of me and believe that this administration can undertake the most extensive transformation in our nation’s history,” Ruto said.
