Ibrahim Rotich, a prime suspect in the murder of Kenyan athlete Agnes Tirop will remain in police custody until the Eldoret High Court rules on his bail application.

In a ruling on Monday, Judge Robert Wananda ordered Rotich to remain in custody for another 61 days.

He asked the probation officer to prepare a new report that will help the court decide whether the suspect will be released on bail or continue to remain in custody.

Rotich is accused of killing his wife Agnes Tirop on October 13, 2021 in Iten area, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

He has been in police custody since his arrest on October 15, 2021 and his bail application will be heard on October 9, 2023.
Tirop died a month after she broke the women’s 10-km world record in Germany, where she finished second in the Giants Geneva 10K race. She also claimed bronze medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships in the 10,000-metre race.
