Jacktone Odhiambo, the prime suspect in the murder of LGBTQ activist and fashion model Edwin Chiloba has pleaded not guilty.
Odhiambo denied murdering Chiloba between December 31st, 2022 and January 3rd, 2023 in the Chebisaas area of Moiben, Uasin Gishu county, in an appearance before Eldoret High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi.
“I never murdered him,” Odhiambo replied when asked by the judge to answer the charges.
Lawyer Mathai Maina is representing Odhiambo, while Mitullah Gilbert is representing Chiloba’s family.
The judge ordered that the case be heard on February 16th to consider the supply of all documents to the parties involved.
Last week, the court ordered Odhiambo to undergo a mental evaluation at MTRH before entering a plea on Wednesday.
Deputy Registrar Rosemary Onkoba had directed that Odhiambo be held at the Eldoret GK Prison in the meantime.
This is after the lower courts found Odhiambo to have a case to answer after investigations linked him to the brutal murder of the fashion model.
Four other suspects among them three minors were set free by the court after evidence showed they had no link to the killing of Chiloba.
The three minors however are required to report to the DCI offices in Eldoret South once a month for three months for purposes of recording further statements.
